The Municipality of Borba proposes a voyage through the History of Portugal by way of the Battle of Montes Claros for the night of 18 June.
The show will take place in the emblematic Praça da República, with the magnificent Building of the Paços do Concelho as the backdrop.
It will be on the façade of this building that the videomapping session will take place. This will accompany the voyage of the most striking episodes of Portuguese history. Street theatre, fire, light and a new circus are some of the arts that we propose for a night not to be forgotten, in a production signed by Artelier? - Plataforma das Artes de Rua.

REGUENGOS EMOTIONS

Adorabilis creates a ritual space filled with bodies in a state of emergency and acts as a fictional machine that resides in three exposed and victimized presences through invisible tensions.
In a state of alert, the interactions between these presences are constantly inspected by a virtual energetic eye, it not being clear whether its nature is authoritarian or passive, whether it is controlled or instead cares. This digital performer quartet may also have the power of suggesting to the audience that performers as well as scenic spaces are more relevant at that moment.
Jonas & Lander use the richness of cultural and natural biodiversity to create a labyrinthine dance. Light, sound and setting are autonomous elements that interfere in the behaviour and in the reactions of the performers, as rain, night or spring are decisive elements in the life of animals.
GOD IS A SHARK
We are all
We are all like small fish
Inside a small fish ball
And God
God is like a Shark
Responsible for us, I gather
We are all
We are all like small fish
Who try
Who try not to drown
And God
God is like a Big Brother
He watches over us going up
And down
We are all
We are all like small fish
God can be the fisherman
God
Is a great, great lover of sushi
And when someone is caught
We say Amen
To swim
We all swim endlessly
We swim to no man’s land
And God
Is a giant octopus
Older than the old Big Ben
The Godfather
He expects a lot from us
But we are nothing but minute fishes, small, small
And so
Because we all carry the memory of a fish
In the end we are nothing but little goats
God,
Oh, God is a shark, a giant shark
We are but minute fishes, small, small
A shark, an omnipresent shark, a silver plated shark, a lifeguard of a flock of little goats

In the year that Lisbon is the Iberian-American Capital of Culture, Évora, Montemor-o-Novo and Arraiolos serve as a huge square of encounters, with breezes from the Atlantic and Mediterranean Oceans in an ancestral embrace that defines Iberian-American cultures. The music that zigzagged from the south to the north of the Mediterranean crossed seas, took on new rhythms, was shaken by the salty breeze of the Atlantic, now returns to the Alentejo, a huge square that merges oceans, creates bridges and ties, bringing peoples and cultures that are physically far from each other together. The music, like any other artistic manifestation, is a window opening onto the culture of peoples. Between 7 and 11 June we shall watch and experience sounds, tinted by the warm hues of Iberian-American cultures, not at the window but in the squares and streets of Évora, Montemor and Arraiolos.

EXHIBITION OF IBERIAN--AMERICAN CULTURES

Brother is a concept for 7 performers which establishes a relationship of complementarity with their previous work HU(R)MAN. In both, the emphasis is on the dance that exists in a group context, but they differ from each other in their temporal references and composition processes. If in Hu(r)man one turns to abstract and formal urban contemporary dance, in brother I look at a common ancestry and look for the affinity and similarity that have survived generational passages and that are reminiscent in bodies and dance that even today is being developed.
What do we look for through dance?
Brother is shaped through the constant mimicry between performers that is the driving force of movement, behaviour and patterns. A non-verbal vocabulary is developed, which is regenerated and transmutes as time goes by through compromise or de-blockers that is manifested in each one. Mobile bridges appear and disappear between now and then.
On a large scale, it is a reflection on heritage, memory, codes and learning and tuition processes.
Brother is also a bothersome "bother". An attempt for a common pulse, a feeling of belonging and fondness, an assumed frailty caused by the awareness of loss and finitude. A pleasant night in this pleasant spot.

A deadly game in pursuit of happiness.
The game as a source of speech.
Feast and play as enabling elements of joy, misfortune, intimacy and escape to solitude.
A reality game between sadness and joy.
Have you ever felt on edge?
What is easier, to forget or to forgive?
Ever you ever felt attracted to anyone in your family?
What do you long for in your past?
Do you repent at all for something you have done?
Tells us of a time when you felt closer to your parents or to only one of them.
Have you ever betrayed someone, or have you ever been betrayed?
Tell us about an experience when someone spent a lot of money on you.
Describe your the worst experience in your life.
What has been the most hectic or dangerous moment in your life?
Is it inevitable for us to copy our parents’ behaviours?
What do you think is more worthwhile to work for?

Spring Awakening, a tragedy of youth, is a play written in 1891 by Frank Wedekind about a group of adolescents in conflict with conservative and moralistic society. Wedekind´s text finishes with a talk between two living people and one dead person in a graveyard by Wendla Bergmann’s grave, a 13 year old girl who died a victim of abortion forced on her by her own mother. Her lover Melchior Gabor, receives a visit from his best friend, Moritz Stiefel, who carries his head under his arm. Moritz killed himself because he failed his exams and could not face his parents. He came to offer his hand to Melchior in an invitation to death. Alas, Melchior accepts someone else’s hand, that of the “Gentleman in disguise”, a springtime figure who prevents yet another death and who, incidentally, in the première, in Max Reinhardt’s staging was acted by Wedekind himself.
This final image summarizes the plot. Cruelty and love among equals, generational intolerance and suicide are some of the highlights of the interpretative tradition of this text.
The Theatre of Prague, invited by the Centro Cultural de Belém, comes back to us, after having shown the “Avarento ou A última festa” (The Miser or The Last Feast - text by J. M. Vieira Mendes after Molière), a classic of dramatic literature, to include in a text and in canonical theatre, the place of those who are excluded from the status quo.
We intend, therefore, to mould lyrical expressionism of a loose-fitting adolescence with a language that escapes the rigid separation of cynicism/sincerity; poetical/rational as if it flew over whatever is being built as if it did not belong to them.
If in the “The Miser” the idea was to think of a house occupied by the Theatre of Prague after the expulsion of the “old man”, “Spring awakening” will bring us a house occupied by a puberty far away from Nature, total surrender from body to body, the creation of identities, through an emancipatory rite, but also resisting all traditional norms. This will be a place where the cohabitation of languages is paramount and where references will blend together, where despair is life and suicide a victory. This show goes on looking for a humankind still to be invented.

“Connecting Creative Ecosystems” intends to promote the debate and presentation of crosscutting cultural subjects and fields, approaching not only the performative and visual arts but also of the field of knowledge targeted at the specificities of places with a low population density, although with a more comprehensive vision and in line with an international perspective. It will seek to reflect on the very notion of a creative ecosystem; on the new functions and nature of the "cultural object" and creative processes in the age of digital technology and globalization; on the constraints and potential of creative ecosystems in regions such as Alentejo or similar; on the relations that these regions can establish with more dynamic/populated contexts and with similar regions; on the elements of differentiation, integration and affirmation of cultural diversity in the European area; among others.

When I was a child, I used to be fascinated when watching, like many people in my generation, Vasco Granja’s Television Programmes and I was delighted by those cartoons where they made words from plasticine, cardboard or even from a single line. Thirty years later, give or take, I convene this world, namely Osvaldo Cavandoli’s work, to this second creation of the Sete Anos Sete Peças (Seven Years, Seven Items) project.
Taking into account that a straight line is the shortest line one can trace between two dots, this one is the starting point chosen by me and by Luca Bellezze for the creation of a sort of live cartoon warped from a thread. In a “frame to frame” viewpoint, we will create a visual and audio story, which will depict short singular aspects of contemporary life.
In a time when dividing lines, borders, barriers, the frontlines and targets of warfare conflicts, the ranks and lines of identification of the drama of the refugees, the respect for the maritime boundaries of nations, the tough lines of radical factions for political and religious organizations are common, we want to work on a uniting line capable of putting together whatever is broken up.

TERÇA-FEIRA: TUDO O QUE É SÓLIDO DISSOLVE-SE NO AR
BY CLÁUDIA DIAS

With Euripides, one drives through delirium, irrationalism, hysteria and insanity in a path that leads one from delusion to blindness and from here to revelation. The manifestation of both ferocity and craving for peace, savagery and longing for a serene and simple life are here. All opposite and contradictory directions, elements that clash in an extreme ambiguity, bodies that break up, social status tested as well as faith and beliefs experienced to the limit… Miracles!
This is the moral and aesthetic world that this author invites us to visit and in which we embark, driving us to the depths of the human psyche, subject to forces beyond reason.
In the “The Bacchae – Prelude to a Purge”, the music, dance and mystery drive us as we were trapeze artists on a wire of intensity, on a fight of appearances and dissimulations, in between the fields of Apollo and Dionysus.

The sounds of Cante Alentejano and the music of the Alentejo are in Borba at Easter with the MONDA, with voice and classical guitar, Jorge Roque, on the piano, Pedro Zagalo and on bass and voice, Herlander Medinas. The Monda project is recent and was born by improvising the best songs and music of the region.
Their sound is very close to new musical trends, with no barriers or borders and close to the younger generation, MONDA bring something truly modern to Cante Alentejano, mixing traditional compositions with the new sounds of World Music.
MONDA was born from the will of its performers and the recognition in these new times that is of the essence to make room for the sounds of a more obvious south. In the interval between each one of their cultural and musical roots, different stops and learning, there is a common space, the Alentejo, land of their origins and where the natural will to sing and play their origins is an increasing certainty.
